Supporting Men in Grief: Insights from Guys and Grief Podcast
Apr 11, 2024
In a recent episode of the Bloom and Grow with Liz Fiedler podcast, I had the privilege of interviewing Brad, the host of the Guys and Grief podcast. Our conversation shed light on a topic that often goes unnoticed—the unique grief experienced by men who have gone through pregnancy or infant loss. Brad shared valuable insights into the background and purpose of his podcast, highlighting the importance of supporting men in their grief journey.
One of the key takeaways from our discussion was the focus of the Guys and Grief podcast on men who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss. This is an important distinction, as men often face unique challenges and expectations when it comes to grieving these types of losses. By providing a platform specifically tailored to their experiences, Brad is helping to create a space where these men can feel heard and understood.
Another aspect of the Guys and Grief podcast that stood out to me was its format, which includes interviews with experts and influencers in the grief community. This not only provides valuable insights and advice for listeners but also helps to normalize the experience of grief and encourage open conversations about it.
One of the things that Brad and I discussed at length was the importance of balancing seriousness and lightheartedness when discussing grief. While grief is undoubtedly a serious and deeply personal experience, finding moments of lightness and humor can be incredibly healing. By incorporating a mix of serious discussions and more lighthearted moments, the Guys and Grief podcast is able to offer a well-rounded and supportive listening experience.
We also touched on the different perspectives on death and the afterlife that can bring comfort to those who are grieving. While everyone's beliefs and experiences are different, Brad emphasized the importance of respecting and acknowledging these differences in order to provide meaningful support to those who are grieving.
Overall, my conversation with Brad was a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting men in the grief process. By creating a podcast that specifically addresses their experiences and challenges, Brad is helping to fill a crucial gap in the support available to those who are grieving pregnancy or infant loss. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from Brad and to share his insights with my audience.
